John Philip Heithoff was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and raised in nearby Council Bluffs, Iowa, where he graduated from St. Albert Catholic High School in 1970. John went on to attend Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, where in 1974 he received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Then in 1977, John received his Juris Doctor from Creighton University School of Law in Omaha, Nebraska. John retired from practicing law in his hometown and currently resides in Omaha. His children, Beth and Nathan, live in the Omaha area. John has five grandchildren: twins Izzy and Eva, Luke, Claire, and Norik.

John previously published an inspirational true story entitled The Rosary Tail and a children’s book entitled Heather Boots.
